‘Grand Cricket Match. Yorkshire v. Sussex’ 1873. Early original scorecard for the match played at Bramall Lane, Sheffield 14th & 15th July 1873. To one side the scorecard shows the Yorkshire innings of 200 all out, with Sussex then dismissed for 91 and, following on, standing at 1/1, Harry Killick the batsman out. The other side shows the completed match with Sussex being bowled out cheaply for only 47, Yorkshire completing an emphatic victory by an innings and 62 runs. Top scorer in the match was Yorkshire’s Andrew Greenwood with 68, and James Lillywhite for Sussex returned bowling figures of six wickets for 107 runs in Yorkshire’s only innings. Printed by W. Whittam, ‘Printer to the All England Eleven’. 4.5”x6”. Heavy staining/ scorch marks and age toning, with horizontal fold. Only fair condition.
This was the first time since 1855 that the two teams had met. Sussex’s Edward Pattenden made his first-class debut at the age of 30, but played only three more times before retiring in 1875.
