Herbert Sutcliffe. Yorkshire & England 1919-1945. Four letter comprising correspondence from 1965 between Sutcliffe and Leslie Deakins, Secretary of Warwickshire C.C.C. In a two page handwritten letter in ink dated 26th April 1965 Sutcliffe states that he will be attending Edgbaston to adjudicate on a Gillette Cup match and, tongue in cheek, suggests this ‘will enable you to prepare the Red Carpet and engage the local band and also arrange with the Chief Constable for an escort on the borders of the City’, nicely signed ‘Herbert’. Deakins welcomes Sutcliffe’s letter in a typed reply of 27th April with amusement. Sutcliffe writes again on 3rd May unable to attend the 1st Test due to a prior golfing engagement, with Deakins writing on 5th May enclosing a parking permit as requested. Good condition.
