M.C.C. matches v St. Peter’s School, York 1925-1936. Square silver presentation salver on four feet presented by members of M.C.C. to Sam & Cicely Toyne. The salver engraved to centre ‘To Sam & Cicely Toyne from Members of M.C.C. teams in grateful appreciation of their charming hospitality at St. Peter’s, York 1925-1936’ the inscription surrounded by the engraved signatures of members and players of the M.C.C. teams from the period with strong Yorkshire interest. Signatures include Theodore Brinckman (M.C.C. Captain), Henry Swan, George Gould (Nottinghamshire), Peter Higson (Lancashire), William Worsley, Arthur Sellers, Wilf Barber, Raleigh Chichester-Constable, Harold Kaye, William Harbord, Arthur Lupton, Claude Anson all of Yorkshire C.C.C. etc Hallmarked Birmingham 1930 to back. Approximately 10.5”x10.5” diameter. Very good condition
Sam Toyne was the Headmaster of St. Peter’s School, York, an able cricketer who played one match for Hampshire in 1905. he usually played for the M.C.C. team against the school. He coached future England and Yorkshire Captain, Norman Yardley
