England v New Zealand 1931. Original sepia press photograph of Gubby Allen playing an attacking shot to leg in England’s first innings of the drawn first Test at Lord’s, 27th- 30th June 1931. New Zealand wicket-keeper Ken James looks on. Signed in ink to the photograph by Allen and James. Batting at number nine, Allen went on to record his maiden Test century (122). 8”x6”. Sport & General, London. Ex J.W. Goldman collection. Includes a trimmed handwritten caption from the original album page. Adhesive marks to verso where previously laid down, otherwise in very good condition.
