‘The Cricketers’ Guide, or A Concise Treatise on the Noble Game of Cricket, as practised by the most eminent players...’. William Lambert. Fifth edition ‘with considerable additions and corrections’. Sussex Press, Lewes: printed and sold by J. Baxter; by Mozley, Derby; and in London, by Langley and Co. c.1819[?]. 62pp booklet lacking the important folding copperplate engraved frontispiece plate. The book appears to have been bound in early card wrappers to which is laid a title label to the front with slightly different wording, ‘Lambert’s Cricketer’s Guide, or Instructions and Rules, for playing the Noble Game of Cricket...’ which corresponds with the ninth edition of c.1823. The first advertising page may have been laid down to the inside cover. Padwick 383. The pages are loose, the final (blank) page detached. The wrappers worn with crude tape repair to spine, otherwise internally in good condition. A rare and early book.
