G.C. Foster was a noted Jamaican sprinter and national record holder. He travelled to England for the 1908 Summer Olympics but was not eligible to participate as Jamaica were not then affiliated to the International Olympic Committee. Foster remained in Britain and successfully defeated several Olympic competitors at subsequent meetings. On his return to Jamaica he played first-class cricket and later became an umpire.
