Arthur Staples Benefit 1937. Rarely seen official souvenir programme for ‘Notts County v Sutton and District’, Sutton-in Ashfield, dated 23rd June 1937. The programme with editorial comment on Staples career, testimonials by Larwood, Heane, Quaife, Hammond etc, advertising and team listing. Very nicely signed in ink to the ‘Autographs’ page’ by the listed Nottinghamshire team with the exception of Lilley, additional signature of Wheat who was not listed in the twelve. Twelve signatures, Heane (Cpt), Larwood, Voce, Staples, Walker, Knowles, Butler, Keeton, Hardstaff, Gunn, Wheat and Harris. Presntation copy from A.W. Shelton to G. Neville Weston. ‘Inscription to the top border of the front wrapper ‘G. Neville Weston with the kind regards of A.W. Shelton, 12/10/37’. Minor rusting to staples, minor wear to wrappers otherwise in good/very good condition
A.W. Shelton was a book collector who wrote about Nottinghamshire C.C.C. and served as President of Nottinghamshire Cricket Club. He also assisted in the sale of Ashley-Cooper’s unrivalled collection to Sir Julien Cahn on his death

Weston is renowned as being probably the greatest historian on the history of W.G. Grace, in particular his attention to the detail of minor matches in which Grace played throughout his career
