‘A Handbook of Cricket’. Edmund Routledge 1862-1889. Two limited edition studies of the Handbook, of which numerous editions were published. ‘A Guide to Edmund Routledge’s Handbook of Cricket’, Roger Hancock 2007, no. 5/50, and ‘Edmund Routledge;s Handbook of Cricket. An Additional Guide’, Nicholas Sharp 2015, no. 25/50. Both titles signed by the respective author. Good/ very good condition. Sold with five different original editions of the Handbook, each comprising 64pp. First edition 1862, original pictorial yellow boards, ownership signature of C.I.S. Wallace to inside front cover dated 1931, replacement spine (Sharp reference no. 1). Second edition 1862, original pictorial yellow boards, ownership name of H.W. Warner to front endpaper, some loss and tape repair to spine (Sharp no. 2). Third edition 1862, original pictorial yellow boards, bookplate of E.D.R. Eagar to inside front cover, replacement spine (Sharp no. 3). Another edition 1867, original blue/ red pictorial boards with later spine, advertisement pages at front and rear for other Routledge publications and frontispiece engraving of a cricket match (Sharp no. 11). Another edition 1889, original tan/ green pictorial boards (Sharp no. 31). Padwick 396. All five editions with varying degrees of wear and soiling, otherwise in good condition. Qty 7.
