Henry (Harry) Luff. Two page original handwritten letter in ink from Luff to Charles Pratt Green, dated 29th January 1907. Written on official ‘John Wisden & Co.’ letterhead with attractive green circular emblem, Luff is pleased Green likes ‘the book [presumably the Wisden Almanack] as usual, they were all sold in 10 days & a lot of orders could not be executed’. He continues, ‘about 6 months ago I got a [18]75 from an old collector. I paid him £5 for it but it completes a set as I was short of that one’. He looks forward to a ‘”big” day of golf tomorrow with W.G. [Grace] at Walton Heath... the “Old Man” plays a real good 14 handicap’. Nicely signed ‘Harry Luff’. Sold with the original envelope addressed to Green. Good/ very good condition.
Mr. Henry (Harry) Luff was the proprietor of Wisden’s Cricketers’ Almanack and of the firm of Messrs John Wisden of 8 Cranbourn Street 1884-1910. He died on 18th July 1910.
