A.H. Randall, Bedford. 1930s-1940s. Box file containing a comprehensive collection of typed and neatly handwritten detailed statistics covering County cricket with particular Northamptonshire C.C.C. interest, apparently compiled by Randall in the 1930s and 1940s who, it is assumed, was attempting to compile a history of the Club. Included is a good selection of original letters, some with original envelopes, to and from County Clubs and others, many enquiring about wicket-keeping dismissals of the period. Signed letters from County Secretaries include Maurice Turnbull (Glamorgan), E. Coley, A. Goldwell and R. Heron (all Northamptonshire), W.G. Tunnicliffe (Gloucestershire), R.V. Ryder (Warwickshire), William Findlay (M.C.C.) etc., also a number of signed letters from Arthur Langford, Assistant Editor of ‘The Cricketer’, Alec Hearne, Kent scorer, a four page letter dated 1935 from the cricket writer, Home Gordon, who accepts responsibility for errors in his own statistics published in The Cricketer, and a signed plain postcard from the West Bromwich photographer, Albert Wilkes, quoting prices for the reproduction of photographs. Also included is a small exercise book comprising a page detailing the history of the formation of Randalls Ltd. C.C. followed by pages of neatly written results, averages and player reviews for the 1930 and 1931 seasons, and a collection of individual typed pages of scoresheets for matches played against local clubs. Randall captained the side in 1931. An interesting collection with some good signatures. Good condition.
Research suggests that Randalls Ltd. was an ironmongers based in Bedford. Alan Herbert Randall served as Mayor of Bedford in 1960 & 1961.
