Richie Benaud. Two page article handwritten in ink by Benaud on the dominance of the West Indies in Test cricket. The article is undated, but would probably have been written in the late 1970s/ early 1980s. Benaud opens by saying ‘I think it is absolutely ridiculous to say WI are ruining Test cricket. You could get away with saying they are ruining the reputations of opposition players... but that is what teams try to do’, and admires their ‘tremendous... abilities and demeanour. It is up to the cricketers of all the other countries to come up with a way of beating them’. However Benaud disagrees ‘vehemently’ with their slow over rate, with Test cricket ‘in danger of losing public support’, but closes by saying ‘people should never forget that this is one of the greatest, possibly the greatest, cricket team we have seen’. Minor smudging to the second page, otherwise in good condition.
