Ian Terence Botham. Somerset, Worcestershire, Durham, Queensland & England 1974-1993. ‘The Walter Lawrence Trophy’. Silver medal with 925 sterling stamp, inscribed ‘1985. I.T. Botham. Somerset v Warwickshire at Birmingham. 50 balls’. 2” diameter with original red, yellow and white striped ribbon. In original presentation case. Sold with a copy of a letter to Botham, dated 12th October 2004, from Brian Thornton, Trustee of The Walter Lawrence Trophy enclosing this medal and another awarded to Botham. The medals were cast and awarded retrospectively at a presentation ceremony held at Lord’s in 2004, which Botham was unable to attend. VG. Previously sold as lot 25 in the Lord Ian Botham Auction held by Knights in July 2023
The Trophy was instigated by Sir Walter Lawrence in 1934 who introduced the award for the fastest hundred scored in an English season in a first-class innings. Botham won the award twice, first in 1982 and again in 1985.

Lawrence was a master builder who created his own cricket ground at Hyde Hall in Hertfordshire
