The Ashes. England v Australia 2005. Set of eleven excellent original pastels by the renowned British sporting artist, Stephen Doig, of individual members of the England Ashes winning team of 2005. Each player is beautifully depicted in an iconic action pose including the captain, Michael Vaughan and Andrew Strauss, each with bat raised celebrating reaching a century, Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff, Matthew Hoggard, Steve Harmison, Ashley Giles and Simon Jones appealing for or celebrating taking a wicket, Marcus Trescothick, Kevin Pietersen, Ian Bell and Geraint Jones in full flow with the bat. Each artwork is signed by the artist and uniformly mounted, framed and glazed, measuring 23”x26.5” overall. Previously sold by Bonhams as lot 407 in their sale of 7th June 2007, achieving a hammer price of £4030 (including commission). A rare opportunity to acquire this renowned artist’s original work. Born in 1964, Stephen Doig won the Art Trade Guild’s ‘Best New Artist of the Year’ in 1997 and remains one of the best known sporting artists in Britain.
