West Indies tour to England 1963. An extensive and excellent selection of over one hundred and fifty original mono press photographs including some copies and restrikes from the 1963 tour. Images include match action from the Test series and the tour matches v Duke of Norfolk’s XI at Arundel, and v M.C.C. at Lord’s, also team photographs of the West Indian and England teams, player portraits, travelling etc. Individual players featured include Frank Worrell (Captain), Garry Sobers, Alf Valentine, Joe Solomon, Easton McMorris, Lance Gibbs, Wes Hall, Willie Rodriguez, Deryck Murray, Basil Butcher, Lester King, Seymour Nurse, Joey Carew, Rohan Kanhai, Conrad Hunte etc. General views include some excellent crowd scenes at The Oval after West Indies had secured victory, including joyful West Indian supporters in the stands, crowds swarming on to the pitch, Ted Dexter fighting his way through the huge crowds, the crowds gathering in front of the pavilion, and Dexter and Worrell raising a glass from the balcony to the spectators. Others feature crowds at Lord’s and Edgbaston, practising in the nets, the arrival of the West Indian team at Paddington Station, presentation of the Wisden Trophy to the President of the M.C.C., the England team being presented to The Queen, and the West Indian team boarding their plane at Heathrow at the close of the tour. Press agencies include P.A./ Reuter, Sport & General, Daily Sketch, Central Press Photos etc. Various sizes, the majority 10”x8” with some larger format (sadly folded) and others smaller. The odd photograph with press masking and other minor faults, otherwise in good condition.
West Indies won the five match Test series 3-1 with one match drawn.
