England v Rest of the World 1970. A good selection of forty three original mono press photographs from the 1970 unofficial Test series including match action and team photographs. General views feature captains Ray Illingworth and Garry Sobers holding the Guinness Trophy, team photographs of the both teams at Lord’s and Rest of the World at Headingley, the captains tossing for innings at Edgbaston, and both teams lined up for a minute’s silence in memory of umpire Syd Buller at the start of the fifth Test at The Oval. Players depicted in match action include Sobers, Eddie Barlow, Rohan Kanhai, Farokh Engineer, Mushtaq Mohammad, Mike Procter, Graham McKenzie, Barry Richards, Clive Lloyd (Rest of the World), Illingworth, Colin Cowdrey, John Snow, Alan Knott, Geoff Boycott (England) etc. Press agencies include Sport & General, Daily Sketch, Central Press Photos etc. Various sizes, the majority 10”x8”. The odd photograph with press masking and other minor faults, otherwise in good condition.
The five match ‘Test’ series was hastily set up to replace the South Africa tour to England, cancelled due to political pressure over apartheid. Although originally designated a full Test series by Wisden, its status was demoted three years later. The World touring side won the series 4-1.
