‘Clifton College 1862-1912’. A portfolio of thirty one pages comprising forty three original sepia photographic plates of events and personalities in the history of the College with scenes of the college buildings, masters and sports including cricket and athletics. The plates are laid to pages loosely contained within grey boards with green cloth spine, printed title and College emblem to front and cord tie. Includes four page index printed by The Vandyke Printers, Bristol. Cricket related images include ‘The XI of 1864’, two of cricket matches in progress in the grounds in 1890 and 1911, portrait photographs of E.F.S. Tylecote (Oxford University, Kent & England 1869-1886), C.L. Townsend (Gloucestershire, London County & England 1893-1922), and A.E.J. Collins, also ‘A Record, 1912’ G.W.E. Whitehead 259no (Kent 1914) and J.R.F. Errington 120 v Liverpool in 1912 standing in front of the scoreboard showing their score. The covers with some wear, the contents in very good condition. An excellent collection.
Edmund Tylecote scored 404no in a house match in 1868 while a pupil at Clifton. He made six appearances for England. Arthur Collins famously scored 628no in a house match at Clifton College in 1899 which lasted five days!
