‘England v. Australia. The Record of a Memorable Tour’. P.F. Warner. Mills & Boon, London, first edition 1912. Bound in original maroon cloth, gilt title to front and spine. Presentation copy ‘To J.W. Hearne with every good wish and in appreciation of his fine batting from The Author. June [1912]’. Hearne was a member of Warner’s 1911/12 tour to Australia. Some fading to spine, odd plate detached, otherwise in good condition.
Warner fell ill early in the 1911/12 tour and was unable to play in the Test series and his place as captain was taken by J.W.H.T. Douglas. England lost the first match but went on to win the series 4-1 to regain The Ashes. J.W. Hearne played in thirteen matches on the tour, scoring 808 runs including two centuries (highest 143) at an average of 44.88.
