‘County of Surrey against the County of Nottingham’ 1853. Early original advertising handbill with printed titles and listed teams for a match to be held ‘On Thursday, September 8th, and following days’ at the Oval, Kennington. The players listed below correspond with the match played in 1853. Surrey’s team was comprised of Julius Caesar, Ponsonby, Miller, Caffyn, Chester, Heath, Hinkly, Lockyer, Martingell, Mortlock and Sherman. The Nottinghamshire team was very much a family affair, made up by three Parrs, brothers Samuel and George, and the unrelated Butler Parr, also William Clarke and his son, Alfred, Tinley brothers Crispin and Francis, and Bickley, Brown, Grundy and Guy. 5”x7.5”. Printed unknown. Minor wear to edges, otherwise in good/ very good condition
Surrey (68 & 81) lost to Nottinghamshire (161) by an innings and 12 runs. George Parr top scored in the match with 53no for Nottinghamshire with Surrey’s Martingell taking eight wickets for 37 runs.
