‘Cricket & Croquet’. A unusual pair of nineteenth century unglazed terracotta earthenware figures. One of a boy batsmen, wearing broad banded boater, wearing pads and with bat and stance ready to receive the ball and the other of a young woman wearing dress and feathered hat playing a croquet shot. The cricket figure stands approximately 15” tall and the lady 14.5”. The boater of the batsman has a couple of chips to it, possible restoration observed by the auctioneer to the hands and bat area of the batsman, the lady has lost a piece of her dress at the back and possible restoration observed around the hands and mallet. There were a similar pair of figures sold in the Hal Cohen sale held by Phillips auctioneers in January 1995 sold as lot 80. A rare pair of sporting figures not previously sold by the auctioneer
