Bodyline. ‘England v Australia. 1st Test Sydney 1932-3’. Original mono panoramic photograph depicting the match in progress with huge crowds looking on from packed stands. Originally from the collection of Hedley Verity (Yorkshire & England 1930-1939) with a letter of provenance signed by Verity’s son, Douglas, dated 26th July 2001. The photograph was taken on the second day’s play, the scoreboard showing Australia having been dismissed for 360 in their first innings, England’s reply at 13/0 (Wyatt 12, Sutcliffe 1). Sutcliffe went on to make 194, and centuries from Hammond (122) and Nawab of Pataudi (102) on his Test debut set England up for a first innings total of 524. Australia were then dismissed for 164 in their second innings, England winning by ten wickets. Harold Larwood took ten wickets in the match. Verity bowled a total of seventeen overs in the match for fifty wicketless runs. The photograph, by Hall of Sydney with printed title to centre, measures approx. 24”x5”, mounted, framed and glazed overall 27”x8”. An excellent image in very good condition.
