‘Derbyshire v Australians 1886’. Original early sepia photograph of the Derbyshire team seated and standing in rows wearing cricket attire for the tour match v Australians at the County Ground, Derby, 7th & 8th June 1886. The photograph with handwritten title and players’ names in ink to lower portion of the image. Players featured are Maynard (Captain), Walker, Cochrane, Docker, Eadie, Sugg, Cropper, Coup, Chatterton, Disney and Davidson. The photograph measures approx. 9.5”x8”, mounted, framed and glazed overall 19”x15.5”. Photographer unknown. Very good condition.
Scheduled for three days but completed in two, Derbyshire (95 & 144) lost to the Australians (191 & 49/4) by six wickets. Australia’s George Giffen took sixteen wickets in the match including nine in Derbyshire’s second innings.
