Archibald Campbell MacLaren. Lancashire & England 1890-1914. ‘The County Cricket Record’. Rare large original commemorative silk scorecard for the Lancashire v Somersetshire Championship match played at Taunton on the 15th- 17th July 1895. Archie MacLaren made the record score of 424 runs, still the highest individual score by an Englishman, including 62 fours and a six and Lancashire made 801 all out, the first time a score of over 800 had been recorded in first-class cricket. Lancashire won the match by an innings and 452 runs, Somerset being dismissed for 143 and 206, Briggs and Mold each taking nine wickets in the match. Somerset used nine bowlers in the Lancashire innings. The scorecard with some foxing, otherwise in good condition. A rare item from an historic match. Sold with a ‘Lancashire County Cricket Club Season 1931’ cotton handkerchief, crudely trimmed, and a very large and colourful cotton handkerchief/ headscarf, ‘Lancashire at Cricket’ with images of the Old Trafford pavilion, decorated with red roses.
