‘Rules of the Veteran’s Cricket Club’. Four page printed card brochure with decorative cover and title, to inside pages ‘Rules...’ of the club and to back cover a printed scorecard (uncompleted) for the ‘Grand Cricket Match. Hittites vs. Hivites’ played on the Toronto Cricket Club Grounds on the 17th July 1896. Some creasing to corners, small split to fold, otherwise in good condition. Rare.
The Hittites vs. Hivites cricket match seems to have been an annual event where coloured and various clothing was worn. There is mention and scores of the 1891 match in ‘Sixty Years of Canadian Cricket’. Hall & McCulloch 1895.
The rules of the Veteran’s Cricket Club are very humorous and include ‘8. Any member missing a catch shall be fine one bottle of Ginger Ale (McLaughlin), two catches, two bottles, and so on in proportion. 10. Any member making himself disagreeable, be considered as such, and be required to pay of one case of Hiram Walker & Son’s Club. 15. Any bowler bowling three wickets in succession will be required to get himself a new hat and furnish two cases old Whiskey of J.P. Wiser & Son, Prescott...’.
