‘The Athletic News Cricket Annual’. Complete and full run of issues for 1892 (first year of issue in book form) to 1955 (final issue). Bound together as fourteen volumes in modern matching dark blue leather with gilt titles to fronts and spines, original front and rear wrappers retained. Padwick 1034 and 1117. Bookplate of the collector Alan Davies to inside front cover of each volume. Faults to the original wrappers of early editions, otherwise in good/ very good condition.
The Annual was first published in book form in 1892 having previously appeared as supplements to ‘The Athletic News’ from 1886. Issues from 1903-1924 were edited by ‘Tityrus’ (J.A.H. Catton) and from 1925-1955 by Ivan Sharpe. In 1946 the title changed to ‘Athletic News Cricket and Golf Annual’ and was issued in a larger format. From 1947 it reverted to the smaller size and was incorporated into the ‘Sunday Chronicle Cricket and Golf Annual’ until its final issue in 1955 with the title ‘Sunday Chronicle Cricket Annual’. There were no wartime issues for 1915-1918 and 1940-1945.
