The Ashes. England v Australia 1934 and 1938. Six large original sepia press photographs of action and crowd scenes from the 1934 and 1938 Ashes Test series in England. Images include a general view of action from the second day’s play in the 4th Test at Headingley with crowds in the packed stands watching on. The scoreboard shows Australia on 201/3, England having scored 200 in their first innings. Ponsford is on strike on 82 with Bradman at the non-striker’s end on 98 (Bradman went on to make 304, Ponsford 181 and the match was drawn). Another depicts crowds waiting to enter Lord’s for the 2nd Test, with a ‘Ground Full’ sign hanging at the turnstile. Horizontal and vertical folds. From the 1938 series, one of the scoreboard at Trent Bridge in the 1st Test showing England’s first innings total of 658/8 dec., Paynter 216no, another of play in progress with Australia batting on the second day at Headingley in the 4th Test, and two from the 5th Test with Hutton and Leyland batting at Kennington Oval, Hutton going on to make the record score of 364 in their total of 903-7 dec., England winning by an innings and 579 runs.
