Rowing. ‘King’s College [Cambridge] 1st. May Boat 1933’. Two large mono photographs, one of the King’s College rowing team seated and standing in rows wearing blazers, the other of the crew on the water. The photographs laid down side by side to photographer’s mount, with hand printed decorative title and rowers’ names to margins. Between the photographs is a decorative emblem inscribed ‘Bumped Ldy. Margt. II’. The photographs by Hills & Saunders of Cambridge each measure 11.5”x9.5”, mounted overall 31”x15”. Minor soiling to the mount, the photographs in good/ very good condition
The ‘May Bumps’ or ‘May Races’ are a series of annual races held on the River Cam. The boats start each race a length and a half apart and any boat which is touched or overtaken by the boat following is said to have been ‘bumped’
