Rugby Union. The Barbarians tour of South Wales 1901. Large original mono photograph of the Barbarians team seated and standing in rows wearing rugby attire on the pitch for the match against Swansea at St. Helens, Swansea, Easter Sunday, 9th April 1901. Players featured include Skrimshire (Captain), Elliot, Boyd, Douglas, Fraser, Hartley, Forrest, Tufton, Dudgeon, Brettargh, Drysdale etc. The photograph by H.A. Chapman of Swansea measures 11.5”x7.5”, laid to official photographer’s mount, overall 17.5”x14.5”. Very good condition. An excellent image.
Swansea beat the Barbarians 11-0. The 1901 Easter Tour of Wales, comprising matches at Penarth, Cardiff, Swansea and Newport, was the first of a series that continued until 1994.
