M.C.C. tour to Australia 1928/29. Official four page menu with card wrappers and ribbon tie, for the Luncheon held on the 6th March 1929 ‘To Wish Bon Voyage to the members of the M.C.C. English Team. Luncheon given by Mr Donald Mackinnon, Members Pavilion, Melbourne Cricket Ground’. The front cover with printed caricature drawings by Wells of each member of the team plus to centre a larger caricature image of a lion and kangaroo having a meal and the ‘battered and bruised’ kangaroo stating ‘We don’t want to lose you but we think you ought to go’. Signed in black ink to the front by fourteen members of the touring party. Signatures are Patsy Hendren, Tich Freeman, Jack Hobbs, Herbert Sutcliffe, Maurice Tate, George Duckworth, George Geary, Douglas Jardine, Ernest Tyldesley, Harold Larwood, Les Ames, Phil Mead, and F.C. Toone (Manager). The rear cover is signed in ink by eleven members of the Australian team, Ryder, Woodfull, Grimmett, Fairfax, Hornibrook, Ponsford, Oldfield, Wall, Jackson, a’Beckett and Kippax. Twenty six signatures in total. Some soiling, inner pages becoming detached, otherwise in good/ very good condition.
England won the first four matches of the Test series, losing the last, for a 4-1 series victory to retain the Ashes.
