John William Hitch. Surrey & England 1907-1925. Large sheet of ‘ledger’ size paper (9.5”x15.5”) very nicely signed to the top of the page in ink by Hitch, giving his year of birth ‘1886’, he has then proceeded to write his career highlights below. These include ‘Surrey County, 20 years, 1465 wickets, Vistied Australia 1911/12 and 20/21, Triangular Tournament, Manchester and Oval ... Centenary match at Lords 1914, First class Umpire, Test at Leeds, Lancashire League with Todmorden 1927.... Winner of All India Championship and Ranji Gold Cup 1938,... Umpired all Tests in India, D.R. Jardine’s M.C.C. team, also Lord Tennyson.... my biggest thrill: the running out of G.H. Hirst, Yorkshire v Surrey at The Oval...one of my greatest hits: driving Rhodes, Yorkshire through the Amateurs dressing room window at the Oval... Centuries Kent and Somerset ‘2’, I think it is a record for a fast bowler to go to Australia as a fast bowler 10 years after his first tour to Australia’ etc. A beautifully handwritten page with gilt to page edges
