Charles Frederick ‘Fred’ Root. Derbyshire, Worcestershire & England 1910-1932. Two handwritten letters in ink from Root in Tipton, Staffordshire to Mr. John Webber, Manager of the Sports Department at Harrods. In the first, a single page letter on ruled paper dated 14th March 1927, Root acknowledges receipt of an invitation to attend Harrods for promotional employment, but states he has to ‘get the permission of the Worcestershire County Cricket Club’. In the follow-up two page letter dated 23rd March 1927, he reports that Lord Cobham (Club Chairman) and Major Jewell (Captain) are in favour subject to approval at a forthcoming meeting, ‘I think the necessary permission will be granted’. Both letters signed ‘Fred Root’. Light folds to both letters, one with small tear to lower edge affecting the signature, otherwise in good condition.
This lot is one of a run of four letters from cricketers replying to invitations to promote cricket goods and equipment at Harrods in 1926 and 1927.
