Henry Perkins. Cambridge University, Cambridgeshire & M.C.C. 1854-1868. Single page handwritten letter on M.C.C. letterhead, dated 29th June 1885. Writing in his capacity as Secretary of M.C.C., Perkins is inviting ‘My dear [F.M.] Lucas’ to play for Gentlemen v Players at Lord’s on 6th July. Very nicely signed ‘Henry Perkins’. Very good condition
Perkins was Secretary of M.C.C. 1876-1897. Frederick Lucas (Sussex & Cambridge University 1880-1887) did play in the match and was top scorer for the Gentlemen (captained by W.G. Grace) in both innings, scoring 89 & 31. The Players won by four wickets.
