‘M.C.C. Australian Tour 1928-9’. Official ‘Orient Line, R.M.S. Ormonde’ souvenir brochure with decorative covers, M.C.C. colours to front. To inside pages a real mono photograph of the M.C.C. team laid down to the itinerary page, pen pictures and biographies of the M.C.C. team etc. Nicely signed in black ink to the front cover by fifteen members of the touring party. Signatures are White, Hendren, Sutcliffe, Freeman, Leyland, Geary, Larwood, Jardine, Tate, Chapman, Duckworth, Hobbs, Tyldesley, Hammond and Ames. Lacking one signature of Mead. The brochure contains the full set of tour results and was probably published in limited numbers just prior to departure, the final page states, ‘Freemantle, March 25th - M.C.C. having retained “The Ashes” embarked in R.M.S. “Ormonde” for England’. Some age toning and wear to covers, slight splitting to spine, otherwise in good condition. A rare brochure for the return trip and unusual to see, the S.S. Otranto brochure for the outward trip being much more widely seen.
The touring party travelled out from Toulon on the S.S. Otranto and returned from Freemantle on the Ormonde on 20th April 1929 having won the Ashes series 4-1.
