‘All-India vs. The Australians’ 1935/36. Rare original scorecard for the second unofficial ‘Test’ match played at Eden Gardens, Calcutta, 31st December 1935- 3rd January 1936. The ‘Opening Score Card’ with players listed at the start of play. Notable players for India include C.K. and C.S. Nayudu, Mushtaq Ali, Wazir Ali, Yuvaraj of Patiala, Armanath, Mohammad Nissar, and for Australia Jack Ryder, ‘Stork’ Hendry, Charlie Macartney etc. India were bowled out for only 48 in their first innings, Macartney and Oxenham sharing the wickets five apiece. Australia then struggled to 99 (Nissar 6/35), and India were then dismissed for 127 (Leather 5/29). Australia knocked off the required runs to finish 80/2, winning by eight wickets. Scheduled for four days, the match was completed in two. Loss to lower corners, some age toning, horizontal folds, otherwise in good condition.
The tour to India, financed by the Maharaja of Patiala and organised by Frank Tarrant, took place without the approval of the Australian Board of Control as the official Test team were touring South Africa. Consequently the touring party, officially titled ‘His Highness the Maharaja of Patiala’s Team of Australian Cricketers’, comprised former Test and fringe Sheffield Shield players. Eighteen first-class matches and four unofficial ‘Tests’ were played on the tour.
