Gloucestershire v Middlesex 1938. Jim Smith (Middlesex) fastest fifty. Official folding scorecard for the match played at Bristol 15th- 17th June 1938 with printed and handwritten scores in coloured pencil and annotation in red ink. Gloucestershire (209 & 322) lost to Middlesex (573) by an innings and 42 runs. Stapled to the scorecard is a small press obituary cutting for ‘C.I.J. “Big Jim” Smith, the former Middlesex and England fast bowler’ describing the highlight of this match in which Smith scored 66 in 18 minutes, ‘the first 50 coming in 11 minutes’. Other notable performances were centuries by Hulme (143) and Edrich (118) for Middlesex, Allen (104) for Gloucestershire. Printed on the ground by Partridge & Love of Bristol. Heavy horizontal folds, tears to edges, otherwise in good condition.
Cedric Ivan James ‘Jim ‘Smith (Middlesex & England 1930-1939) made five Test appearances for England 1934-1937. He died in 1979.
