Duke of Beaufort’s XI v Tom Goddard’s XI 1948. Tom Goddard benefit match. Official folding card programme for the match to commemorate the ‘Opening of the Memorial Ground’ at the Badminton Cricket Club on 4th July 1948. Nicely signed to the centre pages by the majority of the players and officials listed including some of the Australia 1948 touring team. Twenty three signatures including the Australians Jack Fingleton, Arthur Mailey, Bill O’Reilly, Allan McGilvray, also Walter Hammond, Bev Lyon, Reg Sinfield, Bob Wyatt, Charlie Barnett, Andy Wilson, Tom Goddard, umpires Bernie Bloodworth and Frank Lee etc. Also the Duke of Beaufort, John Arlott (commentator) etc. Tear and splitting to spine, some staining and age toning, small scribble to rear, otherwise in good condition.
Badminton C.C. was located in Wilshire, Gloucestershire, and appears to have disbanded in 2011. The Duke of Beaufort’s XI won by seven wickets. Top scorer in the match was Basil Allen with 101 for Goddard’s XI.
