Australia tour of England 1934. Rare mono photograph of the S.S. Orford which brought both the Australian cricket and Davis Cup tennis teams to England in 1934. The photograph laid down to photographer’s card mount with typed title label ‘The Australian Cricket & Davis Cup Teams 1934’ to lower border, and very nicely signed in black ink to the mount by all eighteen members of the Australian cricket touring party including the manager Harold Bushby and treasurer W.C. Bull. Players’ signatures are Woodfull (Captain), Bradman, Grimmett, McCabe, O’Reilly, Wall, Oldfield, Chipperfield, Darling, Barnett, Brown, Ebeling, Kippax, Ponsford, Bromley and Fleetwood-Smith. Also signed by the four members of the Davis Cup tennis team, Quist, Crawford, Turnbull and McGrath. The photograph measures 6”x4.25”, mounted overall 10”x8”. Some foxing to mount, otherwise in good/very good condition. An excellent and rare item of Australia memorabilia.
Australia won the 1934 Ashes series by two Tests to one with two matches drawn. Bradman, McCabe and Ponsford were prominent in the batting averages. Bradman scored 2020 runs at 84.16, Ponsford 1784 runs at 77.56 and McCabe scored 2078 runs at 69.26. Bill O’Reilly topped the bowling averages taking 109 wickets at 17.04 with a best of 9-38. The Davis Cup was won by Great Britain in 1934.
