England v India 1967 and the ‘The Horlicks Awards’ sponsorship of the Test series. A good selection of seven official mono press photographs of winners of ‘The Horlicks Awards’ for the three Test matches played, each signed either to the photograph and/ or mount by the featured player, plus W.R. Bowden, Director of Horlicks Ltd., where present. Photographs and signatures are for the 1st Test at Headingley (England won by six wickets), two photographs, one with four of the award recipients, Nawab of Pataudi and Ken Barrington (lacking Basil D’Oliveira) for batting, Ray Illingworth for bowling, and Farokh Engineer for fielding plus W.R. Bowden, another with Pataudi and Engineer with Bowden. 2nd Test at Lord’s (England won by an innings and 124 runs), three photographs, one with all five recipients, Kunderan and Graveney for batting, Chandrasekhar and Illingworth for bowling, Murray for fielding plus Bowden, one with Illingworth, Graveney and Murray, and another with Kunderan and Chandrasekhar. 3rd Test at Edgbaston (England won by 132 runs), one photograph of the two Indian recipients, Wadekar for batting and fielding, Prasanna for bowling. Also one other post-match group photograph of Snow, Graveney and Murray with Bowden. All photographs approx. 9”x6”, laid to mounts, each overall approx. 10”x9”. Sold with a further nine unmounted and unsigned press photographs of award winners from the series, 9.5”x6.5” and slightly smaller. Also two official documents prepared by Lexington International, ‘Report of Public Relations Activities on Behalf of Horlicks Limited’, one for the period December 1996- February 1967, the other March 1967- July 1967, both with references to the preparations for and results of the awards for the 1967 Test series against India and Pakistan, with two small press cuttings reporting on the Awards. Ownership name of ‘Peter Brown’ to both reports. Also a copy of the ‘Horlicks Limited Directors’ Report & Accounts’ to 31st March 1967. Very good condition.
Peter J. Brown worked for Lexington International the public relations subsidiary of J. Walter Thompson, and was involved in the running of the Horlicks Awards campaign and preparation of reports.
