The History of Lord’s 1787-1980. A large disbound photograph album comprising a collection of over seventy original mono press and other photographs, also cuttings, facsimiles of engravings etc. covering the history of Lord’s cricket grounds. Matches featured include action and crowd scenes from England v Australia 1921, 1938, 1968, v West Indies 1963, 1966, Varsity Matches of 1891, 1897, 1903, 1927, 1930, Eton v Harrow 1891, 1898, 1937 including spectators in their finery etc. Other subjects include boys receiving coaching and tours 1920s, Canadian touring party in the nets 1936, pitch preparations, queuing spectators, the new Mound (Warner) Stand and Tavern Stand developments 1950s/1960s, re-siting of the Grace Gates, wartime use of the ground for Army training etc. Also includes a plain postcard from George Francis Hearne (M.C.C. one first-class match)1882 to Charles Pratt Green, postmarked 1893, signed ‘G.F.H’, and a signature in ink (faded) of John Murdoch, M.C.C. Assistant Secretary. Adhesive marks to the verso of photographs, other odd faults, otherwise in good condition.
