M.C.C. tour to Australia 1920/21. Official sepia photograph of the M.C.C. touring party seated and standing in rows wearing cricket attire and blazers. Laid down to photographer’s mount with printed title to upper border, ‘With the compliments of “The Daily Mail”, Brisbane. 6/12/20’. Players featured are Douglas (Captain), Hitch, Howell, Hobbs, Wilson, Rhodes, Hendren (suited), Dolphin, Parkin, Strudwick, Hearne, Russell, Woolley and Waddington. Also featured are the two umpires Carter and Carvosso. The photograph, taken at the close of the drawn tour match v an Australian XI played at Brisbane 3rd- 6th December 1920, measures 8”x5.5”, laid to mount overall 11”x8”. The mount appears slightly trimmed. Very good condition.
Johnny Douglas holds the dubious distinction of leading the first England team to be ‘whitewashed’ in an Ashes series, Australia winning the 1920/21 series 5-0.
