‘Notts County Team, 1891. Taken at The Oval, Kennington, August 3rd’. Large original sepia photograph of the Nottinghamshire team seated and standing in rows wearing cricket attire, assorted caps and blazers. Printed title and players’ names to lower border. Players featured are Dixon (Captain), Shacklock, Wright, R. Daft, Attewell, Sherwin, Gunn, Barnes, Flowers, Bagguley, H.B. Daft, also Coxon (scorer), corresponding with the match v Surrey 3rd- 5th August 1891. The photograph by the London Stereoscopic Co. measures 13.75”x10” and laid to large disbound album page, overall 18”x15”. To the verso is a large mono photograph of ‘Lord Brassey’s Yacht, “The Sunbeam”’. Some soiling and staining to the album page with some tears to edges, the photographs in very good condition.
Surrey (176) beat Nottinghamshire (86 & 44) by an innings and 46 runs, Surrey’s George Lohmann taking ten and Bill Lockwood eight wickets in the match. Billy Barnes (19) was the only Nottinghamshire batsman to reach double figures when they were skittled out for only 44 in their second innings.
