‘Wisden Trade Catalogue. List of Prices for 1862. Cricketing & other British Sports. Warehouse, 2 New Coventry Street, Leicester Square, London’. Headed to ‘Regiments and Cricket Clubs’. Small 8vo.16pp. The front wrapper has an illustration of Wisden’s Shop with a paragraph regarding what the shop has to offer. The list of prices is followed by bats, stumps, gloves etc as well as cricket photographic prints, the Lillywhite and Wisden patent catapulta and other sporting goods such as football and rackets and finally cigars... In around 1855/56 Wisden went into partnership with Fred Lillywhite and they opened the shop in New Coventry Street. Lillywhite soon left and set up elsewhere and about 1863 Wisden moved to Cranbourne Street. It appears Lillywhite was miffed when Wisden started his famous annual in 1864, as he had been producing an annual for some time, and was not keen on competition. This trade catalogue is much the same size as a Wisden and printed in the same typeface, and it seems odd that he did not produce it as part of the early editions of Wisden. A very rare and early cricket trade catalogue. Some wear to edges, slight staining otherwise in good condition
