South African cricket membership tickets 1897-1901. Two original Western Province Cricket Club membership card/ fixture list booklet for seasons 1897/98 and 1900/01, leather covers with gilt title. Sold with a similar membership booklet for the Western Province Amateur Athletics Association 1898. All three issued to ‘The Hon. J.D. Logan’, South African cricket patron. Very good condition. Qty 3.
Scottish-born James Douglas Logan was a South African politician and cricket patron, one of the ‘founding fathers’ and a major benefactor of South African cricket, who used his wealth and influence to promote the game. He financed the tours to England in 1901 and 1904 and presented the Logan Cup in Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) which continues today as the premier domestic first-class competition.
