Douglas Robert Jardine. Oxford University, Surrey & England 1920-1934. Two page handwritten letter, on ‘The Scottish Australian Company Limited’, London letterhead, in ink from Jardine to Jack Sokell, the letter dated 13th September 1954. Jardine is replying to an invitation to a function being held at Wombwell Cricket Lovers Society, possibly to speak. ‘I told you in my letter that we should be driving up to Scotland , so there will not be any need for anyone to meet me as I will come direct to Wombwell- but my wife will be with me. We are simple folk but isn’t it rather a lot these days to ask the President to put up two people?, She is not interested in cricket and I have never tried to interest her. May I leave the question of accommodation to you- a bed & breakfast and if possible somewhere to leave the car under cover- it is old and large and cumbersome. Very nicely signed ‘Douglas. R Jardine’. Light horizontal and vertical folds otherwise in very good condition
Jardine was a board member of the Scottish Australian Company, which dealt in real estate and finance. He died in 1958. Jack Sokell was secretary of the Wombwell Cricket Lovers Society.
