Charles Aubrey Smith. Cambridge University, Sussex & England, 1882-1896. Amusing two page handwritten letter in ink dated 5th August 1939. Smith is replying to a ‘Mrs Furness’ and writes ‘The enclosed has taken some time reaching me, as I do not live in Hollywood and only occasionally do I go to the Hollywood P.O. to see if any letters are lying there for me’. In the following postscript he adds ‘It was apparently forwarded by the London Films Co to me addressed just “Hollywood”’. Very nicely signed ‘C. Aubrey Smith’. Very good condition.
Aubrey Smith played for England and Sussex and captained them in 1887 and 1888. He also captained the Shaw & Shrewsbury team to Australia in 1887/88. He gained fame in the 1930/40’s as a Hollywood actor and appeared in numerous films. He died in 1948.
