Lord Sheffield 1905. Rare original three page folding letter handwritten in ink from Lord Sheffield to the Sussex cricket historian, Alfred J. Gaston. Dated 4th May 1905, and written on Sheffield Park headed paper with monogram, Lord Sheffield is writing to thank Gaston for the ‘kind remarks and references you made to me personally in your “midwinter lectures” and which are reported fully in the “Sussex Advertiser... I was rather surprised to see how much of your references to me was omitted in the “Sussex Daily News”. I certainly find any flattering references to me much better reported in the Liberal papers than in the Conservative’. He closes by saying he gained ‘much pleasure- as a proof that the support I have given to Sussex Cricket was not forgotten by you’. Nicely signed ‘Sheffield’. Very good condition.
