Edward Humphrey Dalrymple Sewell. India, London County, Essex & M.C.C. 1892-1922. An entertaining single page letter handwritten in ink from Sewell to a ‘Mr Hill’. Dated 18th June 1946, Sewell is writing from his publisher’s office in Fleet Street on M.C.C. headed paper, in reply to a request for an autograph. He states ‘You have mixed me up with C.O.H. Sewell, a much better cricketer, who played for Gloucestershire. I played for Essex, & for London County with W.G. Grace’. He thanks the correspondent for ‘the corrections to my “Overthrows” [cricket article]’ and refers to books he has written, with his latest, ‘Well Hit! Sir’, due to be published ‘about next April’ and amusingly suggests he orders ‘a few hundred copies... You’ll sell ‘em all right!’. Very nicely signed ‘E.H.D. Sewell’. The letter is laid to tightly trimmed page. Good/ very good condition.
