Ghulam Ahmed. Hyderabad, Muslims & India 1939-1959. Three page typed aerogramme letter from Ghulam Ahmed with handwritten corrections in green ink in Ahmed’s own hand. Dated 6th February 1953, Ahmed is writing from Hyderabad to Ron Yeomans of The Northern Cricket Society in Yorkshire. Ahmed opens by explaining his decision not to tour West Indies ‘because I was terribly stale... I might have become a liability’. He continues with comments on the ‘Latest developments in Australia... I feel there is some misunderstanding between Hassett on one side and Miller and Lindwall on the other’ and makes the assumption that these two players ‘may not be able to make the trip to England this summer. I am sure England has a bright chance of beating Australia’, and hopes Yeomans will keep him appraised as the series progresses. The remainder of the letter covers Ahmed’s concerns over the well-being of family members living in England following the ‘serious havoc’ caused by ‘the recent floods and gales’, referring to the catastrophic storm surge that had hit the east coast. Nicely signed in green ink ‘G. Ahmed’. Light folds and creasing, otherwise in good condition.
