South Africa tour to England 1951. Original menu for the ‘Dinner in honour of the South African Cricket Team in the Harcourt Rooms of the House of Commons’ held on 26th June 1951. The menu with decorative covers, to inside menu, toasts and guest list including names of government attendees, notably Clement Attlee, Anthony Eden, Selwyn Lloyd, Harold Macmillan etc. The inside back and rear covers have been profusely signed in ink by attendees, over thirty signatures in total. South African’s signatures include A. Rowan (signed twice), Endean (twice), McGlew (twice), Nourse, E. Rowan, Waite, Mansell, McLean, Mann, Chubb, Tayfield, Fullerton, McCarthy and Pegler (Manager). Also signed by E.R.T. Holmes and Plum Warner. Ownership initials to front ‘T.G.G.’ (T.G. Grinter). A rarely seen menu, unique to those attending the dinner. Odd faults and rusting to staples, otherwise in good condition.
