M.C.C. tour of India, Burma and Ceylon 1926/27. First English cricket tour of the sub continent since 1902/03. Large format mono real photograph postcard of the P&O liner, ‘R.M.S. Ranpura’. Published by the Ocean Trading Co., Southampton. Signed in black ink to the skyline above the ship by fourteen members of the touring party. Signatures are Gilligan (Captain), Tate, Astill, Boyes, Geary, Parsons, Earle, Wyatt, Eckersley, Hill, Sandham, Chichester-Constable and Mercer. 10.5”x5.5”. Smudge to the Tate signatures. Some fading to signatures in particular Hill, Eckersley and Wyatt, odd crease otherwise in good condition. A rarer postcard. The name ‘Dentith’ handwritten in pencil to verso, he was a steward on board ship
Noted as a gruelling tour by the players, some were affected by illness and the team had to be reinforced with other players during the tour
