Pelham Francis ‘Plum’ Warner. Middlesex, Oxford University & England 1894-1920. Plain postcard from Warner to the collector, Joe Goldman, dated 19th December 1956. In a very poignant message, Warner begs forgiveness for sending ‘a postcard but writing tires me’ and thanks Goldman for ‘your interest & most original present’. He recollects his early playing days ‘3 generations ago, including [playing against] E.M. Grace. I began in 1894 in first-class cricket- very little that year- so I am very much a veteran!’. He praises Goldman’s collection and complains of having been ‘very ill, & am now a very feeble old gentleman of 83’. Nicely signed ‘P.F. Warner’. Some age toning, adhesive marks to the address side of the postcard, otherwise in good condition.
Plum Warner died in 1963 aged 89.
